Toll classification

The ECM toll classification system classifies vehicles moving from 0 to 90 km\h* in a toll lane. It is used on “manual” or “free flow” (where vehicles do not stop at toll booths) toll lanes. (* varies depending on the sensor used)

The vehicle can be classified before or after the toll barrier (pre- or post-classification).

The ECM system uses so-called intrusive sensors, the resistive sensors (RES1 & RES2) will detect the number of axles of each vehicle. While the inductive loop will detect the passage of the vehicle and its length.

These sensors then transmit signals to detection modules (Capella RD, LD) that detect, count and transmit the information to an electronic interface. This interface classifies the vehicles into different pre-defined categories.
